Emerald State’s Cascade Mountains

Whether you call it “The Emerald State” or “The Evergreen State,” Washington’s Cascade Mountains offer a landscape that truly lives up to both nicknames – Mt. Rainier National Park. For this shot I was trying to capture the sense of distance, with the color of the far-off mountains much different than the color of the up-close trees. To me it feels like it is a very long hike to those distant peaks. (Sunrise, Washington)
