Sand Bars on the Platte River
Measured from its farthest headwaters in the Rocky Mountains to its confluence with the Missouri River, the Platte River system stretches approximately 1,000 miles. Here, as it crosses Nebraska, the Platte River is also home of the world’s largest gathering of Sandhill Cranes during the spring migration months. It was a little early for the clouds of cranes we have seen in past stops here in central Nebraska, but a good chance to see the peacefulness of this significant river as it crosses the Great Plains (Kearney, Nebraska)
