South Manitou Island Lighthouse Guides Mariners
Guiding mariners through Lake Michigan’s Manitou Passage, the current South Manitou Island lighthouse was built in 1871 – Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. I’ve sailed many days on the waters of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, and the lessons learned from these inland seas and the wise skippers who taught me so much about life and seamanship are treasured memories. Each one of them was like a lighthouse in my life, guiding the way. (Empire, Michigan)
