Split Rock Lighthouse Watches Over Lake Superior
A calm and sunny day along the west coast of Lake Superior, but this famous lighthouse guided mariners through gale and storm from 1910 to 1969 – Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. The melody of “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” came to mind as I stood here, knowing that everything was so different the night the ship passed close by on its fateful way across the lake in November 1975. How can Lake Superior be so still and calm one day, and so violent another day? (Two Harbors, Minnesota)
