Wisconsin’s Merrimac Ferry has been a Tradition for Many Generations

Really, is there anyone from Wisconsin who hasn’t been on the free Merrimac Ferry? A summer highlight for many, especially with ice cream stands serving waiting travelers of all ages at both landings, the Colsac III connects two segments of State Highway 113. Ferry service at this location on the Wisconsin River began in 1844 and predates the creation of Lake Wisconsin, which was formed with the completion of the Prairie du Sac dam in 1914. The current ferry was put in service in 2004, is 105 feet long and 45 feet wide, and carries 15 cars each trip (Merrimac, Wisconsin).
