Summer Colors
A splash of summer color with Yellow Coneflowers (Ratibida pinnata) and Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa) – Aldo Leopold Nature Center. As kids we watched our dad help restore prairies and learned a lot about all the plants that help make prairie soil healthy and productive. My dad was a student of Aldo Leopold at the University of Wisconsin and helped with the restoration of the Curtus Prairie, a centerpiece of Leopold’s work at the UW Arboretum in Madison. Today, I greatly appreciate those lessons on soil conservation we learned on the farm growing up and the meaning of “Land Ethic” that both Leopold and my dad so strongly believed in.
