Lower Falls and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

The human history of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone spans more than 11,000 years, evolving from an ancient hunting ground and sacred Native American territory into the visual centerpiece that inspired the creation of the world’s first national park. The rivers and waterfalls of Yellowstone are sometimes overlooked amid the gushing geysers found throughout the park. But I have always been drawn to this other movement of water—from the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River to any one of the 45+ officially named waterfalls and cascades, or the estimated 350 waterfalls over 15 feet tall documented by the National Park Service.
