Delicate Maidenhair Fern at Logan Creek State Natural Area

The distinct black stems of the Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum pedatum) make it easy to spot in the understory of Wisconsin forests – Logan Creek State Natural Area. Walking through this mostly unknown sanctuary in the middle of Door County, I quickly stopped and had to take several pictures of one of my favorite forest sights. I find the little light green leaves and contrasting delicate black stems one of nature’s gems. (Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin)
