Charlevoix South Pier Lighthouse

Lake Michigan, Round Lake, and Lake Charlevoix at one time were three distinct lakes with different water levels and were modestly connected by unnavigable rocky and shallow rivers. In 1869 local citizens cleared a forested area and created connecting channels to make travel between the three lakes possible. In doing so, they caused Lake Charlevoix to lower by four feet, and Round Lake to drop two feet. The Charlevoix South Pier Lighthouse marks the entrance of the channel between Lake Michigan and Round Lake, with most boat traffic moving on through to beautiful Lake Charlevoix.
