Cave Point

Door County Treasure

A favorite for many who visit Door County – Cave Point County Park. The waves have crashed against these rocks for several thousand years, slowly eroding away the dolomite (magnesium-rich cousin of limestone). This hard rock, part of the Niagara Escarpment, helps preserve the formations at Cave Point perhaps longer than other limestone areas in the state. Throughout the Great Lakes area, the Niagara Escarpment forms islands and peninsulas, like Door County, parts of Michigan, Manitoulin Island in Ontario, all the way to Niagara Falls and western New York.
