Celebration Begins Following the Chicago to Mackinac Race
A tradition since 1898, the oldest sailboat race in the United States arrives at Mackinac Island each mid-July. Racers celebrate after having just completed the 333-mile journey from Chicago. For the nearly 300 boats in the competition, the old Irish blessing seems appropriate, “May favorable winds be at your back”. (Mackinac Island, Michigan)
