Commercial Fishing Boat Awaits
The Kelsey T once roamed the rich waters of Lake Huron’s North Channel in search of Lake Whitefish, a mainstay of Canada’s Great Lakes commercial fishing industry. We used to see these boats roaming everywhere when I was a teenager. My dad had a few great stories of riding out on a commercial fishing boat just like this one with a skipper who had befriended my dad as a kid during his summers in Door County. Over the past 40 years, the number of active fishing boats in the Great Lakes has dropped by roughly 75% to 80%. What was once a thriving regional fleet of hundreds of family-owned, small-scale operations has dwindled to just a handful in coastal towns. (Blind River, Ontario)
