Alyeska Black and White

Mid-summer snows atop the 40-passenger aerial tram at Alyeska Ski Resort. The stark, black volcanic rock common in the Chugach Mountains, contrasted with the white snow, defies the reality that this is a full-color picture. As we climbed aboard the tram, we had no idea this would be the world we would be entering as we left the valley floor at nearly sea level and climbed into the clouds at an elevation of 2,234 feet. To leave the world of color behind made me feel I was on a sphere other than our dear colorful planet earth. (Girdwood, Alaska)
